Hosted by: This event hosted by Matt Berman, MA, LPC, ACS, Clinical Director at The Counseling Center at Toms River.

Matt has been in mental health and addiction treatment for 11 years and is currently in his third year as Clinical Director at The Counseling Center at Toms River.

In 2007 Matt earned his BA in Psychology from Richard Stockton University and went on to receive his MA in Clinical and Counseling Psychology from William Patterson University in 2009.

After recognizing that many of those suffering from mental illness were self-medicating with drugs and alcohol, Matt dedicated his time to educating and treating patients to help them overcome addiction and mental illness and live healthy, happier and more balanced lives.

Guest Speaker: We welcome guest speaker Kristine Hart-Posey, RN, Director of Nursing at Sunrise Detox Toms River

For more than 5 years Kristine Hart has dedicated her life to helping those struggling with addiction. The last three years have been spent with Sunrise Detox Toms River where she was recently promoted to Director of Nursing because of her extensive knowledge and training in the addiction field, and her incredible passion for helping people.

At this event, Kristine will share the medical perspective on why it is crucial to complete a medical detox program, as the first step in the treatment process. She will also give insight on how she and her team stabilize patients and make sure they are safe and comfortable during the detox stage while providing a few examples of the risks involved with “cold turkey” detox, and the serious medical complications that can arise. A few minutes will be set aside for questions from the audience.

Getting Started
with a Clinical Assessment

The Counseling Center at Toms River is an outpatient addiction treatment center for adults and adolescents seeking treatment for addiction, alcoholism, and co-occurring disorders associated with addiction and substance use. The Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) combines evidence-based, state of the art treatment with 12 Step principles. The IOP is an intense, focused experience designed to enable sober and productive living.

IOP may be recommended for individuals who do not require medically supervised detoxification, and who live within driving distance of the center, and for individuals who have recently completed residential treatment (rehab) and are in the early stages of recovery.

Eligibility for the IOP is based on a clinical assessment. Treatment is individualized, and full information on program options, costs, and schedules will be available after assessment. Now offering Saturday assessments!
