Your First SPRAVATO Treatment Near Toms River

Your SPRAVATO treatment can start as soon as your second session. But before you begin your regime, there are a few things to consider.

  • Secure a ride. You’ll need transportation to and from our facility as you won’t be able to drive or do anything that requires undistracted alertness until the following day.
  • Bring something to do. As you take the nasal spray, you’ll be monitored for at least two hours. Bring a something to read, a fully charged phone, or some other form of portable entertainment.
  • Guidelines for food and drink. Since SPRAVATO can cause stomach irritation and vomiting in some patients, you shouldn’t eat for at least two hours prior and avoid drinking for 30 minutes prior.
  • Avoid other nasal medications for at least one hour. If you take nasal corticosteroid or nasal decongestant medications, do so at a minimum of one hour prior your treatment.

Once you’ve made your preparations, you will start your SPRAVATO treatment. We will give you instructions you on the proper use of the nasal spray. You will self-administer the spray while under the direct care of our clinicians. We’ll monitor you for at least two hours for side effects and alert you to when it’s safe for you to return home.

For the first four weeks, you will take SPRAVATO twice per week. Once completed, we’ll talk about the frequency and levels of your dosage and recommend a course of action that takes into account your symptoms, progress, and other factors.

What Will I Feel Like During A SPRAVATO Treatment?

SPRAVATO produces a calm feeling that helps alleviate your symptoms of TRD. The dosage does not cause sleepiness in most patients, but you may feel sleepy or doze off during treatment. The lethargy or sleepiness you feel should go away shortly after the session ends or during your monitored recovery time.

Other side effects are possible, including dizziness, nausea, vomiting, or disorientation. However, many patients experience little or no side effects at all.
